Getting To Know Jonathan Jeffreys
We’re delighted to announce that Jonathan Jeffreys will be joining Walton Evangelical Church in September 2026 as a Ministry Trainee. Jonathan joins us with his wife Esther.

Tell us a little about yourself. Who are you, where are you from, what has your journey been so far, and what do you enjoy doing when you’re not studying, working or serving in church?
I am Jonathan from Worcestershire originally, where I was actively involved at Witton Chapel in Droitwich until I moved to Germany in 2023. I married Esther (who is German and English) and lived in Germany for 2 1/2 years before relocating to Sheffield, where we now live with Esther’s grandparents and our dog, Lola. I have worked in finance and admin mainly and worked with European Mission Fellowship for 4 1/2 years, which was how I met Esther. In my free time, I enjoy playing piano and organ, singing in my local choir and getting out in my local community. I also enjoy getting out for walks in the Peak District.
We moved to Sheffield as our pastor in Germany advised us to come for training for future ministry. We feel God is calling us to church planting in the Black Forest part of Germany. I have been involved in open air evangelism for many years and wanted to be involved with the work again in Sheffield. I got in touch with George and started supporting him in Sheffield and Chesterfield as I could. I heard about the Ministry Trainee role a year ago through George, but we wanted time to settle into the UK as a married couple serving in a local church in Sheffield.
How did God lead you to Walton Church and this role? What was the journey that brought you here, and why did you feel this was where the Lord was calling you?
We started attending Walton recently to get to know folk a bit and find out more about the role and if it was suitable for me. The church seemed a perfect fit, aligned with us theologically, had the capacity to train me and had loads of Ministry opportunities. It also enabled us to stay living with Esther’s grandparents which is needed. Now we are sure, that God is moving us on to Chesterfield and I will be serving Walton as Ministry Trainee.
What will your role involve? What are you hoping to be involved in during your time with us, and what can the church family expect to see you doing?
I will be involved in a variety of ministries including pastoral visitation, outreach of different forms, youth and kids work and Sunday and Home group Ministry. I am really keen to develop in my pastoral gifts and in outreach to the community around Walton.
Looking ahead, where do you sense God may be leading you? You may not know the full picture yet, but what hopes or aspirations do you have for the future, and how do you see this role helping prepare you?
I feel that God is calling me to be a pastor and lead a church plant and see this role as an excellent next step in that direction to add to my toolbox of resources to take back to Germany in the future in God’s timing.
How can we pray for you? As you begin this new chapter, what are one or two specific ways the church family can support you in prayer?
Please pray for us both as we adjust to a change of routine, to settle into Ministry well and that we would be a blessing to those around us.
