26 March 2023 (am) – Genesis 5
![]() | Andy Bruins preaching from Genesis on Sunday 26th March 2023. |
Genesis 5 contains the family tree from Adam to Noah through the new line of Seth. This is a family line that has been introduced to us at the end of the previous chapter as instigating a movement from mankind to begin calling on the name off the LORD. The reader’s attention is drawn once again to the seventh name on the list, Enoch. It is in him that we get a glimpse of the plan God has to redeem the human race.
Q Quickly read through chapter 5. What is the repeated phase at the end of the record of each generation? Are there any exceptions?
How does the Genesis account explain the presence of death in our world?
Q Read v21-24. How is Enoch described? What does this tell us about the way that Enoch lived? (take a look at Hebrews 11:5-6 for more information).
Q What is it that makes a life pleasing to God? How is this surprising?
Q Read Jude 14-15. What were the people of the world in Enoch’s day like? What was the message that he preached to them? How do you think people responded to his message?
Q What does the story of Enoch teach us about the answer to the problem of death? (see John 11:21-27)
Q What would it look like for you and I to walk with God like Enoch did?
