21 November 2021 (am) – Acts 15:36 – 16:5

This section of Acts (from 15:1 to 16:5) tells us about 3 situations where the Apostles had to deal with potential conflict. This gives us some very helpful guidance for deciding when today we should stand our ground or be prepared to make compromises.
Q What kinds of things do individual Christians and churches fall out over?
Q Read 15:1-2. What happened in chapter 15? How did Paul and Barnabas resolve the dispute?
Q Read v36-41. What do Paul and Barnabas fall out over? Who was in the right? What was the result? What do you think we can learn from this clash?
Q Read 16:1-5. What does Paul do here, and why is this so strange in the light of what has happened in chapter 15?
Q How would you explain Paul’s decision to circumcise Timothy? (don’t miss v4!)
Compare this with what Paul says in Galatians 2:3-5.
Q How does this passage help us to decide which hills to die on?! (cf. 1 Corinthians 9:19-22 )
