08 January 2023 (am) – Genesis 1:1-3
![]() | Andy Bruins preaching from Genesis on Sunday 8th January 2023. |
Genesis is a book all about origins. The opening chapters introduce God as the good, uncreated Creator who made the universe, and Mankind as the pinnacle of His creation.
If you are familiar with your Bible, you will know that a huge number of topics find their foundations in the opening chapters of Genesis and it is therefore really important that we ourselves put some roots down into the theological ground that is presented here. Without doubt, a failure to do so is the cause of a lot of the confusion that we see in our world.
Q What are some of the ways in which our world has lost its way because they do not know where they have come from and why they are here?
Q What are some of the things in Genesis and creation account that, a) the modern world mocks, and b) Christians tend to argue about?
Q What do the following verses tell us about the approach we should take in discussing controversial topics?
Titus 3:8-11
1 Corinthians 4:6
Ephesians 4:14-15
Q Read v1-2. How is God introduced to the reader? What do we learn about God here, and how does it affect the way that we view God, the creation and ourselves?
Q What else do we learn about God from just the first chapter of Genesis?
Make a list and then spend some time worshipping Him together in prayer.
