07 January 2024(am) – Matthew 7:15-23
|Andy Bruins preaching from Matthew on Sunday 7th January 2024.
As we come to the end of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus now presents His audience with a decision: Will you choose the wide gate or the narrow gate, the wide way or the narrow?
And what follows in the verses we’re looking at is an appeal to carefully assess those who profess to bring the Word of God to us – should we be listening to them? as well as the genuineness of our own profession – are we really in right relationship with Jesus? Are we actually in His Kingdom, or not?
Q Think of some of the most evil world leaders of the 20th and 21st centuries. Why do you think so many people were taken in by their message and leadership?
Q Read v15. What is a false prophet? Why are they so dangerous?
Q Read v16-20. How will we be able to recognise a false prophet? What kinds of fruit do they produce:
Jeremiah 23:10, 16-17
2 Peter 2:1-3
2 Corinthians 11:4
1 Timothy 6:3-5
Q Read v21-23. What sorts of things does Jesus say are no guarantee that you are in His Kingdom?
Q According to v21, what is the one thing that really matters? Read 1 John 3:21-24. What should give us assurance if we doubt our salvation?
